Mating station security

The mating is the most challing task in bee breeding. Due to mating ranges of up to 10 km, controll over the mating partners of a queen demands wide beefree areas. Still, the mating with inflighing wild drones is one of the major concerns for the users of a mating station.

To test, weather a mating station is secure, the parentage of drone colonies, mated queens and their descendends need to be tested.

Sampling scheme for mating station security. Sampled queens are in red. Queens are sampled by mixed drone samples. Colonies are sampled using single workers.

We offer parentage analyses on a project basis as well as an additional service for beeding programs, that use our services on a regular basis.
