Hybrid analyses

The hybrid test reflects the likelihood of a queen or bee to be assigned to a particular breed. Particular attention is focused on the differentiation between A.m.mellifera to A.m.carnica and A.m.ligustica. The results are given as a probability of purity or hybrid status. The cut-off is set according to scientific findings at 90%. It was assessed using simulated populations, taking into account the degree of differentiation, general hybrid content within the population and the number of markers.

Result of a hybrid analysis through the structure. vertical line represent individual individuals. Colors indicate the probable group affiliation. Individuals with a probability of 90% or higher are considered as purebred (Soland-Reckeweg et al, 2008).
