Our genetic services, bee breeding expertise, and specialisation in honey bee conservation create value for bee breeders and conservationists.

Genotyping

Genotypes from 70’000 SNP are determined using the latest technology. This leads to a broad and dens coverage of the genome. The genotype serves as a unique basis for an extended range of applications. The genotypes are available for further additional applications on demand.

Paternity testing

Testing for kinship is a useful application in breeding programs. Assignment are possible to mother and father if their genotype is already available. Sister groups can be determined without knowledge on their parents. This is particularly important in selection and small conservation programmes.

Genetic monitoring

Regular monitoring of inbreeding and effective population size, as well as general genetic diversity, serves as an important check on the status of the population for small populations. The protocol is specifically adapted to each population and can be carried out with the existing genotypes. Available from 2025.

Hybrid analysis

The detection of mismatches and resulting hybridisation is one of the core tasks of bee breeding and conservation. Apigenix uses an extended reference set including 18 subspecies from Europe and Africa as well as historical references.
The results are presented in tabular and graphical form. Individual values are categorised into hybrid categories.

Individual Inbreeding

Conservation and breeding populations are at risk of inbreeding due to their limited size. However, the signs of inbreeding are often congruent with the effects of deficiencies or other environmental factors and are therefore easily misinterpreted. Genotyping enables the simple verification of individual inbreeding in suspected cases.

Genomic selection

Genomic selection is based on the association of genetic loci and performance data. The 70,000 SNP Genotypes contains many markers that are related to conventional performance data as well as Varroa resistance and hygiene. The main area of application is the preselection of drone colonies.
